![]() ![]() Neither Rise of Legends nor Age of Empires III gave me even that. I liked the main character in AoM quite a bit - he seemed appropriately heroic, had a constant band of companions and always had a clear reason to be where he was. ![]() Story based campaigns also depend, to some extent, on the writing and the characters. Build outpost, fend off onslaught, conquer the enemy. Why was I playing the Germans one minute and the English the next? Isn’t there an easier way to find the secrets of the Fountain of Youth than wholesale slaughter?Ĭ) Missions eventually became identical in goals and means. Compare this to AoM where the main character would pause to ask what some amazing thing was.ī) The second chapter confused me in places. I’m always looking for good feedback on how we can improve our games, although I was only minimally involved in Age 3.Ī better question for me would be why I liked the Age of Mythology campaign, since story based campaigns are usually very uninteresting from my perspective.Ī) much better than the “you are there” mini-campaigns of the original Age games, since it didn’t try to shoehorn history into a RTS wrapper.Ĭ) Fair variety of missions near the startĪ) The theme didn’t work very well in the first chapter since there was no sense of wonder that this was a New World.
